Sand shifted beneath my feet as I shambled down the river’s edge. I tried to recall what had happened, but the throbbing pain pulsing at my left temple robbed me of any conscious thought. A strange static filled the space between my ears. It wasn’t like the kind you’d find on the tv at odd hours in the night, but more so the soft hum of recycled air piping through a small nozzle above your seat on a plane.
I felt like I was in a fishbowl. My vision would blur, then clear and blur once more. I struggled to keep my balance as I stepped through silt and wet stone.
There was no sign of my kayak or gear anywhere. The gray waters roared across boulders as trees loomed over the edges of the bank. Massive, gnarled roots crept through the ground to gather a drink. The underbrush above the bank was so thick it was impossible to guess at how far I’d drifted before washing up here.
I said a prayer to a God I’d long forgotten; keep me safe… please.
I had no desire to get lost in the surrounding forest, so I decided to follow the river. It seemed like the best and only option I really had. Surely, I would eventually come to a bridge that would put me on a road. Then I could flag someone down for help. Or maybe there would even be a clearing where I could gather my bearings. Perhaps a house or a farm would be there.
I’d read that in these situations, a positive attitude was essential for survival.
But the further I got down the bank, the more worry festered in my brain. It punched holes in my flimsy optimism. I was always cursed with being an overthinker, and now more than ever it felt like a mental prison.
What if I have a concussion?
What if I never find anyone and starve to death out here?
Or worse, what if something starving finds me?
The thought sent shivers down my spine. I reassured myself that bear sightings in Kentucky were very rare, and that I also was likely the only cougar around.
A much needed giggle escaped my lips. I wasn’t really that old, although if you asked my mother, I was certainly way too old not to be married yet. Is 34 too old to be single? I shrugged. Maybe if I did have a husband though, I wouldn’t be alone right now in the middle of the god-forsaken wilderness…
I finally came to a bend in the river a few miles down and silently prayed that just around it laid some sort of civilization. My heart sunk once I saw it was just more of the same on the other side. Trees as far as the eye could see.
For the first time on one of my adventures, I missed the city. I promised myself that after I got out of here, I’d sell all my hiking equipment and never leave Cincinnati again.
IF… I ever got out of here.
My calves screamed as I trudged several more miles down the bank. My mouth was as dry as cotton and my stomach rumbled with hunger.
It was looking bleak. That positive mindset had just about fully decayed when I caught a glimpse of something bright yellow near the water’s edge.
It couldn’t be…
I screeched with joy and sprinted towards my pack. I grabbed the bag and hugged it like it was a long lost relative.
Jesus Christ, I couldn’t believe it. I scanned the area hoping I’d see my kayak washed ashore as well, but no such luck. Still… I was pretty damn happy as I pulled out a water bottle and a bag of trail mix from within and devoured them with abandon.
Concern receded just enough for hope to make a reappearance.
I was almost laughing until suddenly, a series of grunts followed by a low growl cut my celebration short.

My eyes flicked back and forth, up and down the tree line, but I saw nothing. There was no visible sign of where the sound had come from.
It was definitely an animal. And it sounded, big.
I zipped up my bag and threw it over my shoulders as calmly as I could muster, then continued my travel along the riverbed.
My legs twitched with the desire to run, but I knew that was a terrible idea. Almost everything that saw you run would want to give chase. It was the nature of predators.
After about half an hour I finally released the tension in my shoulders and let myself breathe a little. I told myself I was in the clear, but I just couldn’t shake that feeling of being watched. Like a pair of eyes were fixated on my backside.
I was thankful for my pack that was filled with extra clothes, food and water, but I wish I’d found the other one as well.
My smaller bag contained a map, compass, and GPS phone. God, wouldn’t that be helpful…
One call to mom and she’d summon an army of Park Rangers and law enforcement to get me.
I sighed deeply and pressed onward. No use crying over things that could be but weren’t.
I’d lost track of my steps and wasn’t sure how many more miles I’d covered, but it felt like a lot. Exhaustion permeated my muscles, crept into my bones and tip-toed up into the base of my skull.
I ignored the throbbing of a headache and noticed for the first time that it was getting dark, and quickly. And to make matters worse a rumble of thunder sounded in the distance.
“Great…” I muttered.
There were small cave-like divots pressed into the sides of the riverbank, I searched for one large enough to give me some shelter for the night. Much to my dismay, I wasn’t getting out of here today and I desperately needed some sleep.
After an hour of clearing my spot of rocks, then gathering twigs and dead grass from above, I was able to get a small fire going at the mouth of the hole. Thankfully, my trusty lighter came through in a pinch.
If only that joint I’d been saving wasn’t in the small pack…
The fire warmed the space quickly and muted the smell of earth and moss. I tried to keep my eyes open for a while longer to see if the storm would reach me but couldn’t. My eyelids were too heavy, my body screamed for sleep, and it overtook me despite the roar of thunder above.

My pants were saturated with mud from where the rain had blown in while I slept. I could see the river had risen further up the bank and was now only a few feet from the entrance of my burrow.
My mind was spinning as I tried to decide what to do when lightning struck a tree on the other side of the bank. It illuminated the black void of the night and for just a moment I thought I saw something on the other side of the dark waters.
My heart thundered in my chest. I could swear I saw something out there, watching…
No, it couldn’t be. It had to have been a trick of the light…
Another strike lit up the earth.
A large, black shape towered over a boulder just on the other side. I couldn’t make out it’s features but it’s face looked white as bone with huge antlers spanning over its head like deciduous tree limbs.
I panicked and sprung from my hiding place like a rabbit.
I clawed up the wet clay of the riverbank and blindly tore through the edge of the forest. Limbs and brush whipped at my face and grabbed at my clothing.
All sense was abandoned, flight had taken over.
My legs carried me for as long as they could until I doubled over at the base of an oak tree and emptied the contents of my stomach.
The rain was almost deafening as it pounded on the leaves above, and yet… three grunts… a growl…
It was close.
I couldn’t see a damn thing. I had to move with my hands outstretched in front of me so that I didn’t collide with a tree.
I pushed deeper into the vegetation, completely unsure of where I was going. But something told me, if it caught me, I was dead. Or worse than dead.
I’d read an article last summer that had stuck with me for the better part of a year, where a girl from Russia had been hiking when a Grizzly bear had descended upon her. She’d played dead like you’re supposed to, but I guess it was hungry and began eating her from the feet up. She called her mother and spoke with her for a while as it ate her.
That story looped in my mind like a nightmare as I wept, pushing through thorns, honeysuckle, and saplings.
I patted the Swiss Army knife in my jean pocket and quietly decided that if I was going to be slowly eaten, I’d jam the blade into my neck.
But I prayed it wouldn’t come to that.
More grunts and growls bellowed from somewhere deep within the bowels of the forest. I screamed back this time as tears mixed with rain on my cheeks.
This is it, this is how I die…
The thought felt resolute and concrete. A fact.
But just as I was about to be resigned to it, mercy found me in the darkness.
Headlights cut through the tree trunks about thirty yards away.
I screamed for help as I rushed towards them.
A semi-truck was turning around a bend as I spilled out onto the asphalt, falling to my knees.
I could hear its brakes lock up as the truck skidded towards me, but I couldn’t move. My chest heaved with heavy sobs as the grill of the rig came to almost kiss my forehead.
“WHAT IN GOD’S NAME!” I heard the driver holler as they slammed the door and raced around to the front.
“Are you okay?! What the hell are you doing out here?” A portly woman in overalls grabbed me by the shoulders and examined my face.
But I couldn’t answer. I was too afraid. Too tired.
“Come on honey, let’s get you in the truck.”
She helped guide me up into the cab on the passenger’s side as she told me everything was going to be okay.
I thought… maybe it could be.
Maybe I was okay.
But as soon as hope bubbled to the surface, it once again was massacred by this new reality.
I watched as she waddled around the side of the semi until disappearing in front of the engine block. I saw a flicker of a shadow in the headlights just for a moment.
Then the cab shook slightly. I gasped and leaned over the dash, desperately searching for the woman but I didn’t see her.
My breath pinched off in my throat like a closed pipe. The suspense of the next ten seconds felt like an eternity.
Curly red hair popped over the hood. I furrowed my brow, what the fu…
Then a terrified face emerged, eyes wide like saucers.
“Oh, God… no…” I whispered.
The woman vomited a stream of crimson blood over the hood.
She mouthed something that I couldn’t make out in the rain fall and then was lifted fully into view, impaled in the torso upon massive antlers.
I screamed and threw myself into the driver’s seat.
The gears groaned in protest as I tried to remember how to work the double clutch. My stepdad had been a trucker his entire life and had shown me how to do it… once.
I finally got it into 1-Low after shouting obscenities at the column.
The truck lurched forwards as I watched as the poor woman disappear below the hood again.
The cab rocked violently as I rolled over her and the creature.
A squeal as loud as a dozen elk came from the undercarriage.
I shifted to second gear, then third as I cleared over the top of them.
I watched the rearview mirror as I drove down the hill. I caught a glimpse of it coming to stand, towering over the road.
“FUCK YOU!” I screeched like a Valkyrie.
The turbo whistled as I sped like a madman until it was out of sight.
I drove and drove. Not even stopping at the first two towns I came across. Not until the sun was fully up.
The tears were dry, and my mind was blank. That strange static came back to fill my head. But this time it was much louder, more like a haunted television. And inside the static I was crying out, but I was lost under the noise.

The next day I gave the police my statement, or at least a version of it.
I didn’t lie… but I didn’t tell them everything either because I knew they wouldn’t believe it.
It was chalked up to an animal attack. The National Wildlife Department was looking into it.
Cheryl Kramer was the name of the woman who’d tried to help me. They never found trace of her. I knew that they wouldn’t…
When I got home to my apartment I did just what I’d promised, I sold all my gear and donated any hiking clothes I had.
Everything went back to normal for a while. But sometimes when it rained… I could swear I could see something across the street in the open lot.

What is that about? It’s so wild to watch. No critical thinking skills? Narcissism? Just not smart? I need to talk about this. Examples below…
In the season 9 reunion she recognizes that Katie does in fact have the right to be concerned about Schwartz’s business ventures because they’re married. She’s given her crap for it all season but come to the reunion her mom had explained to her that married people are a team. This thought hadn’t occurred to her before.
This season it’s glaringly obvious. What sticks out are -
1) Raquel not understanding that men can lie about their relationship status. She doesn’t understand that Lala was lied to by Randall UNTIL Oliver lies to her. She immediately has to go to Lala to say WOW I didn’t realize how easy it is for men to lie. It never crossed her mind before!
2) Thinking that there was a path forward with her and Ariana after the affair. In her one on one with Andy she admits that during the affair she thought it would all be ok with Ariana after they told her what was going on. HUH?? She genuinely showed she hadn’t thought about it critically at all. She doesn’t realize there is no hope until the affair is revealed.
3) Watching Scheana break down about the lawsuit and the betrayal/dissolution of their friendship. She is emotionless and only quips that she should have written a handwritten note and that watching has given her more regrets. I don’t think she even considered that she also hurt Scheana’s feelings in this situation until she sees Scheana lay out everything she’d done for her and why she felt betrayed. THEN it clicked.
I’m sure there are more examples I can’t think of right now. Would love to hear any y’all have too as well as your thoughts on it.

This seems clear cut to me (and a very privileged problem), but here we are:
I (46M) just got a promotion at work, and my partner, "Michelle" (45F), suggested I could use a little bit of my raise to get a cleaning person every two weeks for my apartment (we split time between my place and hers). She has someone clean her place and loves the “just cleaned” feeling that comes with having someone clean her place, and this way we’d always be in a place that was just cleaned. I admit I liked the idea, so I agreed.
I asked a friend who lives in the close-by neighborhood (we’re in Chicago) for the name of his and his wife’s cleaning lady (“Katy”). Note: I had talked to Michelle’s person, but I live on the North Side, and she lives on the South Side and her person didn’t want to travel all the way up to the neighborhood I’m in, otherwise I would have used her person.
Katy and I texted, and she asked my address to figure out travel time, how many rooms (2br, 1ba, kitchen, living room, and dining room), square feet (850), and how many people live there (me full time, Michelle is there 50% of the nights, and I have my 13yo daughter 50% of the time as well). She tells me she has her own supplies (I need to provide a vacuum), and the first cleaning will be $140, and then every other week will be $100. This seemed reasonable, so I scheduled a time with her. She came yesterday morning and was there for just under four hours. I gave her $160 in cash (my friend advised me to tip $20 for each cleaning). She told me that wasn’t enough, that she needed $180 for the first cleaning (not including the tip).
I was confused and asked her did it take longer than she expected (no), was it dirtier and she had to work harder (no), did she use more supplies than estimated (no), rather after doing the cleaning, she felt that $180 for the first cleaning, and $140 for each subsequent cleaning was the new price she felt was fair.
I told her that had she told me this BEFORE she started to work (she had done a walkthrough prior to start working so I could show her the apartment) I probably would have agreed to the new pricing (or asked to meet in the middle), but to spring this on me AFTER the work was done, with no real reason for it other than “this is what I think it’s now worth” isn’t fair, and that she can take the $160, but that’s all she’s getting from me and I won’t be using her services in the future.
She took the money, gathered her stuff, and stormed out. She called my friend’s wife, and I’m getting a lot of texts about them about how I’m being cheap and made them look bad (how?). But to me there’s the principle. She quoted a job, worked the job, and then tried to increase the price after the work was done even though she admits she didn’t do more work than what she quoted for or needed more supplies than what she estimated. My friend says I should have just paid because I could afford it. He and I are both big fans of this sub, and we agreed to let you decide, so AITA?

I (46M) just got a promotion at work, and my partner, "Michelle" (45F), suggested I could use a little bit of my raise to get a cleaning person every two weeks for my apartment (we split time between my place and hers). She has someone clean her place and loves the “just cleaned” feeling that comes with having someone clean her place, and this way we’d always be in a place that was just cleaned. I admit I liked the idea, so I agreed.
I asked a friend who lives in the close-by neighborhood (we’re in Chicago) for the name of his and his wife’s cleaning lady (“Katy”). Note: I had talked to Michelle’s person, but I live on the North Side, and she lives on the South Side and her person didn’t want to travel all the way up to the neighborhood I’m in, otherwise I would have used her person.
Katy and I texted, and she asked my address to figure out travel time, how many rooms (2br, 1ba, kitchen, living room, and dining room), square feet (850), and how many people live there (me full time, Michelle is there 50% of the nights, and I have my 13yo daughter 50% of the time as well). She tells me she has her own supplies (I need to provide a vacuum), and the first cleaning will be $140, and then every other week will be $100. This seemed reasonable, so I scheduled a time with her. She came yesterday morning and was there for just under four hours. I gave her $160 in cash (my friend advised me to tip $20 for each cleaning). She told me that wasn’t enough, that she needed $180 for the first cleaning (not including the tip).
I was confused and asked her did it take longer than she expected (no), was it dirtier and she had to work harder (no), did she use more supplies than estimated (no), rather after doing the cleaning, she felt that $180 for the first cleaning, and $140 for each subsequent cleaning was the new price she felt was fair.
I told her that had she told me this BEFORE she started to work (she had done a walkthrough prior to start working so I could show her the apartment) I probably would have agreed to the new pricing (or asked to meet in the middle), but to spring this on me AFTER the work was done, with no real reason for it other than “this is what I think it’s now worth” isn’t fair, and that she can take the $160, but that’s all she’s getting from me and I won’t be using her services in the future.
She took the money, gathered her stuff, and stormed out. She called my friend’s wife, and I’m getting a lot of texts about them about how I’m being cheap and made them look bad (how?). But to me there’s the principle. She quoted a job, worked the job, and then tried to increase the price after the work was done even though she admits she didn’t do more work than what she quoted for or needed more supplies than what she estimated. My friend says I should have just paid because I could afford it. He and I are both big fans of this sub, and we agreed to let you decide, so AITA?

It's Wednesday and you would be surprised how long it took me to realize that the majority of watches released yesterday were actually Swatch Group. That Tissot has me spending money.
Tissot Releases The Best Summer Watch Of The Year, The Forged Carbon Sideral
The late 60s and 70s are arguably the golden age of watch design. It’s the time when watches stopped being elegant personal timekeeping devices and became tools. Or, at least, gave the illusion of being a tool watch so you could look like a badass on the beach. It gave us luxury sports watches like the Nautilus and Royal Oak, gorgeous chronographs from Heuer and dive watches from the likes of Blancpain and Rolex. It was also the the time of experimenting with materials and Tissot used their Sideral to do so. Since it’s supremely cool today to revive funky vintage watches, Tissot is now bringing back the Sideral, also experimenting with new materials, but this time with forged carbon.
The late 60s version of the Sideral was the first watch to ever use a monobloc fibreglass case. Two years later, the Sideral S was introduced, a sportier take on the concept with a now famous yellow rubber strap and different fastening system.
The new version retains a lot of the aspects of the original, but updating it for the age it’s made in. It retains the barrel shape of the case made of forged carbon fibre and stainless steel that measures 41mm in width and 46.5mm in length. You can get the watch in three colors, and while the black & yellow and black & grey models show the natural colours and pattern of the forged carbon fibre, the black & blue one comes with blue flakes embedded into the material. The unidirectional rotating bezel on top is fitted with a black insert and a graduated regatta scale in white. The screw-down crown ensures it is water-resistant to 300m.
The dial is predominantly black, with either a grey, blue or yellow minute track. This segmented track is accompanied by a green and red regatta countdown section between 12 and 2 o’clock. Tissot is a Swatch company, so it’s just natural that it gets the Powermatic 80 automatic movement. This is Swatch Group’s go-to automatic for several brands and is essentially a heavily modified ETA 2824 which has gotten decent reviews and has an 80 hour power reserve.
The watch comes on three perforated rubber straps in yellow, red or blue, inspired by the original yellow one. Additional coloured straps are said to be available too.
Each of the watches, available now, will retail for EUR 1,075. Looks like Tissot has another hit on their hands.

The New Certina DS Action Diver 43mm Is Pitch Black
Cartina has had a long stretch of being neglected by owners and undermined by the public. But boy, are they back. In the past couple of years they have regrouped and boy, are they on a bender. Vintage reissues, fantastic affordable divers… they even have a modular watch system which is… meh. However, the latest release form the Swiss watchmaker is not meh. In fact, it’s pretty bold. The new Certina DS Action Diver is super black.
It’s a big diver, there’s no denying it. 43mm wide, 51mm lug-to-lug and 13.1mm thick. It’s a stainless steel case with a matte black PVD coating, as well as a matte black ceramic insert within the coin-edge bezel. The blackness of the insert is broken up with a single bright white lume pip at 12. The NATO strap it comes on is also black and made out of recycled plastic. The one downside of the case is the fact that it has a 21mm lug width, so good luck finding a different strap.
The dial is just as black, with contrasting crisp white makers that glow like crazy. The triangles at the quarters and the arrowhead hour hand do help to lend an extra sense of aggression to the dial. There’s a date window at three o’clock. Certina, like Tissot, is owned by the Swatch group, so no surprises on what’s inside - it’s the Powermatic 80.

Mido Introduces Stylish Multifort Powerwind Collection
Here’s another brand from the Swatch Group that has been kicking ass in the past few years - Mido. It might be controversial, but the Mido Ocean Star Decompression Worldtimer is one of my favorite watches of the past few years. Mido does vintage fantastically, just like they did last year when they introduced a limited edition, COSC-certified, revival of the 1954 Multifort Powerwind. Now, Mido is introducing three new variations of the Multifort Powerwind that will be part of the brand’s permanent collection.
The Multifort is Mido’s most important watch. Born in the 1930s, this automatic, anti-magnetic, water-and shock-resistant watch has become its bestseller. The concept was drastically updated in 1954 with an innovative automatic movement and renamed the Powerwind. Developed in collaboration with partner A. Schild SA, the automatic part of the movement reduced the components from the standard 16 to just seven, making it easier to build and service while enhancing durability and reliability.
The new models retain the same elegantly designed case with its thin, twisted lugs, box-shaped sapphire crystal and overall retro style as the limited edition released last year. Compared to the 1954 watch, it has grown quite a bit and is now 40mm wide and 12mm thick. What changes most regarding the design, compared to the limited edition of last year, are the dials.
The permanent collection is no longer a day-date model, but rather just a time and date watch, with reworked markers that are a combination of applied triangular indices and printed Arabic numerals. You can get it in three versions: steel with black dial, steel with blue dial, yellow gold PVD-coated steel with champagne dial.
Perhaps the biggest change happens on the inside - while the limited edition last year had a chronometer-certified ETA 2836-2 movement, the permanent collection gets, you guessed it, the Powermatic 80, here named the Caliber 80. The watch comes on a 3-link stainless steel bracelet with a folding clasp and quick-release spring bars.
You can get the watches now, priced at EUR 970 (black and blue) or EUR 1,160 (PVD gold).

Rado Adds Three Ceramic Watches to their Great Gardens of the World Series
Rado is a polarizing brand. Some love it, others almost detest it. But there’s no denying that Rado has done impressive things with the use of ceramic, be it their retro sports watches in the Captain Cook line, the super minimalist watches in the Designer line or the dressier models like the True Thinline. This is Rado’s slim ceramic watch intorduced in 2011 that is now getting three new models with textured dials inspired by endangered plant species in partnership with the Great Gardens o the World organisation.
This is not the first time that Rado is working with Great Gardens of the World, a network of gardens across 20 countries. They have made seven watches prior, making these Chapters 8 through 10. All three of the new watches have the same 40mm high-tech ceramic monobloc case that’s only 9mm thick, with ceramic bracelets that have a triple-folding titanium clasp. Inside the watch is the Rado 766 movement, based on the ETA 2892.
The major differences of the three come from the looks of the watches. Chapter 8 is housed in a black polished ceramic case, with the dial recreating the pleated leaves of the Hawaiian Luolu lelo palm tree. The hands and brand name are golden coloured. Chapter 9 is dedicated to the Chilean Araucaria, or monkey puzzle tree, and comes in a glossy, white high-tech ceramic case. The sharp, scale-like leaves of the tree are replicated on the dial with a composition of engraved triangles in opalescent mother-of-pearl. Chapter 10 is dedicated to the Dragon Blood Tree in a grey ceramic case and a two layer dial. The top layer is a skeletonised plate cut out in organic shapes to evoke the thick, entangled branches of the Dragon Blood Tree, revealing the lower layer in a pink gold colour.
The trilogy – Chapters 8, 9 and 10 of the Rado True Thinline Great Gardens of the World – is available in a collector’s box, limited to 99 units. Alternatively, each model can be purchased individually for EUR 2,900.

The New Edox SkyDiver 38 Date Automatic Is A Vintage Inspired Skin Diver For You If You Want A Smaller Watch
The Edox SkyDiver has an interesting story. The brand claims that a mysterious drawing was found in their archives which turned out to be “the sketch of a long-lost timepiece, the SkyDiver”. Along with the sketch, there was a scrawled note reading: 1973. Special production in strictly limited edition“ According to a retired Edox watchmaker, the SkyDiver was rumoured to be a secret project for a mysterious, wealthy Swiss colonel. The anonymous colonel wanted an exclusive timepiece for elite mountain paratroopers under his command. It had to combine the no-nonsense functionality of a dive watch with the style and aesthetics of a precision pilot’s watch.
So Edox took these sketches and remade it in modern times with a bronze version that followed. In 2021, the SkyDiver was entirely revamped with new looks and upgraded materials, yet a solid vintage touch, in a case of 42mm. To fix the biggest complaint they got, they are now releasing a new version - the 38mm SkyDiver.
It’s basically the same watch, but smaller. It’s a traditional skin-diver watch, with a straight case, unprotected oversized crown, rather slim case profile topped by a heavily domed crystal. The screw down crown gives you 300m of water resistance and the domed crystal brings the thickness to 13.7mm. You can have it with two dial colors - black or blue, with a matching ceramic insert on the bezel, and it has a glossy vintage finish with applied markers with orange highlights.
Inside is the Selita SW200-1 automatic movement with 4Hz frequency and 38h power reserve. Both colors come on a 3-link brushed and polished steel bracelet closed by a triple folding clasp.
The watch is available now and is priced at EUR 1,575 (excl. taxes).

Watches and military history have an unbreakable bond. You only need to think back to the very beginnings of the wristwatch as a tool. During the Anglo-Burma War and First Boer War, soldiers began to strap pocket watch cases with primitive soldered lugs to their wrists, which opened the door for a new market. Fast-forward some 70 years, and you’ll find yourself in a new world, free from the shackles of World War II. Despite it being a time of peace, the French government found itself in need of accurate, reliable timepieces, resulting in the Type 20 chronograph that took inspiration from the designs of German pilot’s chronographs of the 1930s and 1940s, and applied it to the set of regulations outlined by the French. Today, original Type 20 pieces remain highly sought-after, spawning many re-editions and homages, with one brand in particular making the most of the design.

I read on Reddit, but I can't remember where, a theory that the Weasleys might actually be a black family, which explained their exclusion by the other pureblood families. Staying with Ariana - Brad is not living with Ariana and Tom. He does stay and help with the dogs sometimes - When this first all happened, Ariana’s friends made a spreadsheet to make sure Ariana wasn’t staying alone.
How does Brad know Ariana - Brads history with this group probably started 11 and a half years ago - He originally met Tom, Tom, Jax, Stassi, Katie, and Kristen at Coachella - Kristen commented on a t shirt that Brad was wearing - Then Brad ran into Sandoval a week later - He became good friends with Kristen and Sandoval. Then became really good friends with Scheana - Kristen and Brad joke now because he has been in this kind of situation twice because he was there when Kristen and Sandoval broke up - Brad helped Kristen move. He maintained a friendship with both Kristen and Sandoval when they broke up - Then Ariana joined the group and her and Brad clicked right away and have been best friends since
Season 2 reunion - Nick and them for research purposes, watched the season 2 reunion last night - Nick said what was so eerie is seeing the parallels in what Sandoval was saying back then to now
Looking back - When Brad started to process Raquel and Sandoval’s affair, he said it was such a weird thing because he did not see it coming - This group is really close so if one guy and one girl go off and dance with each other, it isn’t weird. Beginning chit chat - James and Ally were supposed to be on show but they do think that bravo put a stop in that - They then recap the reunion. For some reason it takes a long time for pics to be uploaded. So this is the text review of a review I started 8 days ago.
The journey I was looking for a middle eastern/Arabic scent, so I bought Dehn Al Oudh Pure Agarwood Incense (LOL) from Nandita (not pictured). The stick had some sort of acrid vinegary smell blended in with the Arabic scent. It was like drinking Coke Zero, it tastes just like Coke while you’re drinking it, but once you put the can down, there’s a bitterness in the aftertaste. I really liked the pungent scent though, so Iread though a lot or reviews on Amazon and bought Koya’s Oudh. Koya was $12 for a box of about 20 (not pictured) instead of $2 for Dehn. This incense smells really good! It’s a blend of the deep pungent Arabic scent I was looking (I don’t know the name of it) and plums or blackberries with vanilla maybe. The fruit scent on top of the Arabic scent worked well together. The layering of the scents was done well IMO, especially for $12. The fruity scent (about 60%) is light and relaxing while the pungent Arabic scent (about 40%) draws you in making a dichotomous scent where your brain has to keep smelling it, not just because it smells really good, but because it’s trying to understand the difference between the two.
Someone on here recommended bakhoor. I though bakhoor was the stuff people smoked from hookahs, so I looked it up and found it’s the Arabic scent I was looking for. I went back on Amazon and found a variety box from Dukhni called Oud Dukhni Bakhoor (not pictured). It has 20 small individually wrapped pressed chips containing 10 different fragrances. It looks like particle board mixed with chocolate lol. The square chips were perfumed, with no layering and the texture of the scent was pretty much one note. They reminded me of HEM incense, not bad once you find a scent you like, but that scent with get boring sense there’s not much for your brain to chew on. Next I bought Bait Al Arab by Swiss Arabian. It got good reviews on Amazon and it’s got Arabian in the name so I thought this was going to be amazing, it was not. It smelled straight up like old grandma, which I found out smells like rose. The pieces where heavily perfumed molded chips. The next three I bought are my favorites that I’m reviewing below.

The review:
- Oudh Nassam by Nabeel: This was exactly what I was looking for! The scent is amazing! If you like darker more masculine Arabic incense, you’ll love Nassam. It draws you in by creating an amazing pungent middle eastern scent and instead of layering the smell of fruit with the Arabic scent like Koya, when burning it, you dont realize the lighter scents exist because of the strong pungent scent until a split second after you inhale and then your brain detects them and they mix with the scent that draws you in. I think it’s why I like it so much, plus it’s composed of 22 different ingredients.
- Oudh Nabeel: This is a lighter scent. At first I was going to return it because I wanted it to be like Nassam, but I was so impressed with Nassam I decided to try it for a while and see if it would change my mind. It did. The lighter scent really grew on me. It’s not floral. TBH, I don’t know what it is. I read the ingredients and don’t recognize 90% of them. It’s not a cheap one note wonder kind of smell, it has structure and depth. The best I can describe it is Nassam is a wonderful exciting scent and Oudh Nabeel is relaxing, happy, billowing cloud, take you’re stress away type of scent.
- Bakhoor Sheeba by Dukhni: This incense consisted of 40 grams of 4-5 large molded brickettes. It’s not as textured or layered as Nabeel. It has more of a perfume smell to it and it’s $2 less. Dukhni says the scent is “a woody uplifting blend”. The woody non floral scent is overtaken by the perfumeyness of the scent IMO. It’s not bad though.

They have had good numbers and decent subscriber growth (20%), so right now I don’t think they have anything to worry about and it will be interesting to see where they go from here.

I am not sure I would have predicted these two to be as good at YouTube as they are, but they have done a genuinely good job building their channel.

I was surprised that her move to Florida were her most-watched videos of both 2022 and 2023, more than the birth of Miracle Baby Finley or the announcement of the next Miracle Baby. I guess Erin leaving Tennessee is more newsworthy than another baby (even with her missing ovary). I still think Erin is the one to watch, if she sticks to tutorial and lifestyle content, I think her channel will continue to grow at a good rate.

Lawson and Tiffany are all over the place. So many ups and downs this year, their content has been so inconsistent and not in a purposeful (if misguided way) like Erin’s content swerve. These two just give the impression that they really don’t know what they are doing, they have had big breaks between videos and often piece together footage from multiple different months. Yet, they have still managed to stay in the middle of the pack. They had a subscriber growth rate of 45% and while even their most watched videos haven’t broken 200k views, they manage to get all of their content to hover around the 100k mark. These two frustrate me because I think they could be very successful at it, if they got their act together. I think they also have to stop trying to format their content like a TV show and do more slice of life like the rest of the family.

They are just narrowly missing an average of 100k views per video, so again they are doing fairly well. This coming year will bring the birth of Ryker and will probably give their channel another boost. They are very focused on their content, they advertise it reliably on Instagram and they stick mostly to slice of life, honestly Lawson and Tiffany could take some pointers from them on consistency.

Lawson and Tiffany are all over the place. So many ups and downs this year, their content has been so inconsistent and not in a purposeful (if misguided way) like Erin’s content swerve. These two just give the impression that they really don’t know what they are doing, they have had big breaks between videos and often piece together footage from multiple different months. Yet, they have still managed to stay in the middle of the pack. They had a subscriber growth rate of 45% and while even their most watched videos haven’t broken 200k views, they manage to get all of their content to hover around the 100k mark. These two frustrate me because I think they could be very successful at it, if they got their act together. I think they also have to stop trying to format their content like a TV show and do more slice of life like the rest of the family.

Trace and Lydia have the newest YouTube channel of the family, they only launched their channel after their engagement (which was in March of 2022). They had a modest amount of followers when I started tracking and they have had a growth rate of 223%, so obviously they are growing at a really good rate. They are just narrowly missing an average of 100k views per video, so again they are doing fairly well. This coming year will bring the birth of Ryker and will probably give their channel another boost. They are very focused on their content, they advertise it reliably on Instagram and they stick mostly to slice of life, honestly Lawson and Tiffany could take some pointers from them on consistency.

So while we love our local food trucks, it presented a dilemma as they often operate outside of the city and they’re often never in the same spot. Therefore, we landed on a rule – if a food truck/stall/etc. operates at least once a week within town at the same spot, they can be featured on Eatin’ SLOCal, which is why I was happy to see a handful of food trucks take up a parking spot at The Kitchen Terminal and that brings us to our final featured burger spot during #NationalBurgerMonth at Bear City Social. \"Elote Style\" Cauliflower Taco (left) and Linguica & Eggs Taco (right) Setting: 📍The Kitchen Terminal SLO, 4750 Allene Way, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401 Bear City Social is a food truck that does the Runway Wednesdays out at the Kitchen Terminal, a collection of local food trucks that have been gathering since the end of last November to put on a weekly lunch service (and formerly early dinner service too that has seemingly been axed). Their navy blue truck has been around since April of 2021, starting out by frequenting Tent City in Atascadero. At The Kitchen Terminal, they have a table with four seats out and a table with utensils, napkins, condiments, and complimentary sunscreen, which I found to a be a nice touch, there’s no real shade in the area. Check their socials for upcoming stops and hours, Runway Wednesdays are from 11 AM – 3 PM at The Kitchen Terminal. Humpty Dumpty Smashie Menu/Selection: The Featured Menu has the BCS Smashie (a classically topped smashed burger), a Gaucho Bowl (a quinoa bowl), their Quesadilla Suiza, Pozole Rojo (a Mexican stew), and a BLT Salad. There is an Additional Smashie Menu, featuring their Smashie burger with 4 additional topping/dressing styles – Americano (classic burger fixings), The Humpty Dumpty (with a fried egg and bacon), the Cali (cliché avocado, swiss, and green chili), and the Bear BQ (their take on a BBQ/Western burger). You can also add or remove any toppings you want to make your own perfect burger and there is a plant based option available on request. Currently, on the Specials Menu is their tacos with 6 different options all served with cilantro, onions, and a scratch made salsa – Beef Barbacoa, Cuban Pork Shoulder, “Elote Style” Cauliflower, Santa Maria style Tri-Tip, Pollo Sobroso, and Linguica & Eggs. On the dessert menu is a Double Chocolate Brownie and a Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie. They have canned soda and Liquid Gravity Water for purchase as well. Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie What I Had: I had an “Elote Style” Cauliflower Taco, Linguica & Eggs Taco, The Humpty Dumpty Smashie, and a Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie. The tacos, as mentioned above, are topped with cilantro, onions, and a house made salsa. The Linguica and eggs are a classic combination, with the sausage sliced and mixed in with the eggs – great for a breakfast taco. The “Elote Style” Cauliflower tacos where cauliflower seared on the griddle (I assume) topped with Elote fixings and it definitely mimicked that flavor, even the texture of the cauliflower emulated roasted corn, my only note for it (and this is a very irrelevant one) is that there was too much on it that it was hard to close the taco without it spilling out. The Humpty Dumpty Smashie is a 1/3 pound Wagyu Beef Patty place on a hot griddle with onions and smashed flat (as flat as you can smash almost 6 oz of beef without it being too large for a bun – which is not flat at all) topped with American cheese, a fried egg, bacon, ranchero sauce, and a spicy aioli. Okay, you all know how I hate when something is advertised as a smash burger and it’s a thick boy. Normally, that’s because the burger is just a generic burger that’s been smashed yada yada yada. Now people are getting away with evoking the smash name without it being a true smash burger and apparently the new term is a Smashie. Let me just say, this burger is good. The Wagyu is fatty, but perfectly cooked in a smashed way and on the toasted brioche balances it out. That fried egg is runny and it was oozing all over before I even bit in, which plays off the bacon and the ranchero sauce and spicy aioli. The brioche is soft and all the textures are fantastic – except the for the bacon, which was cooked but not crispy in the slightest, which is not how I like my bacon. Either way, this may have been the best burger I’ve had this month. Finally, the chocolate chip cookie was good, a mound style similar to a Levain Bakery cookie, just smaller with chunks of chocolate, slightly warm. It was soft and tasty. Would I Have It Again: Yes, the Wagyu Smashie is fantastic. It’s not a smash burger in my opinion, but it’s no longer advertised 100% as one, it’s smashed and is a delicious burger. The Linguica and Eggs taco was a good twist on a classic breakfast for me and I’d go back for that before it leaves the Specials menu. I look forward to seeing where this truck goes, they are locally sourced, “farm to street” and it shows in the care in their dishes. The only downside is limited seating (but it’s a food truck so that makes sense). So with all that in mind, Bear City Social gets an Eatin’ SLOCal rating of – Take-Out Now! |

My fiancee has moved on Sunday to Zürich, and we took a flight from Münich. We arrived well, our luggage less so. Seeing it did not arrive, we went to Swiss’ lost luggage office and raised a ticket with them. Here we were told they should turn up in 24-48h. Buuut, we’re in day 3 now and still no joy, so we’re getting ready for the inevitable.
Thus, we were wondering if anybody else has been in this situation and, if yes, would you please have any advice for us? Can we ask Swiss for reimbursement for the lost luggage, and if yes, what amounts are we talking about? My fiancee had most her clothes, makeup, footwear and quite a few other things there, the loss of which can be quite a financial blow. Cheers!
