2023.06.01 18:20 Moist_Crabs DMing for 17 kids, help!
I've been tapped this summer to run a D&D summer camp for 17 kids/teens, ranging in age from 10 to 15. While I've been DMing for my friends for about 4-5 years now, this is of course well beyond what I'm used to.
I'm looking for advice from anybody who's had a comparable responibility or been in a similar situation to this and has any ideas on things I can do to keep the whole group engaged. I will either be the only adult in the room or helped by one other adult. The camp runs for a week, and I'll have the kids for roughly 5-6 hours each day. If it matters, the group is largely male.
Some ideas I've had so far include:
- Splitting the group into smaller pods and having the kids DM for each other (I do know some of them will be relatively experienced)
- Splitting the group in half and pitting them against each other in friendly competition; maybe they'll be two rival city states vying for power, and the gameplay consists of them making choices to build up their cities and augment them with various fortifications. This would also include various 'world events' a la Civilization or similar games.
- Empowering one kid to be a Final Boss-tier monster and having all the other kids work to defeat them, Archenemy style
- I've considered, obviously, running a more traditional game, but I just don't know if it's feasible given the sheer size of the group.
ANY other ideas for things to do with such a large group would be dearly appreciated.

2023.06.01 18:17 cdanl2 Exploring an Ent List - C&C appreciated
I’ve been primarily playing a Harvestboon list loaded down with spiteriders, but recently in a game I explored a more monster-heavy list and am working towards making it a bit more effective.
The goal of this would be to use the Roots of Victory grand strategy (my FLGS is mostly open play, not using the GHB pitched battle rules), and focusing on maximizing the Eradicate Trespassers and Harness the Spirit Paths BTs each turn.
Alarielle is there for two primary reasons: to give me another Treelord or Kurnoth Hunters with Greatswords, while also using Metamorphosis to give me a kill + wildwood to complete the GS and harness objectives.
The two Ancients serve the obvious purpose of giving me more trees for the GS, but I debate between equipping one with the Gladius or the Acorn (in the event Alarielle can’t get off her trees with Metamorphosis). I’m leaning toward acorn to give me insurance to grab the GS points.
The goal would be to set up wyldwoods close to objectives and sit on both until the end of the game, so survivability is just as important as planting trees. Not so much damage dealing except to the extent it lets me defend objectives.
One TLA would be the Johnny Appleseed of the bunch, planting trees and hopefully dealing out damage to clear a path for my Revenants to come in and sit. The other would serve as the general, using Spellsinger and are growth to keep my monsters alive as long as possible.
I would use my TL to sit on objectives with the revenants or to clear out objectives far enough away from my AWs that they can’t be secured by sitting within range of the AW.
This is mainly intended to be a fun theme list that works toward achievable goals. I realize fully that this is 100% not competitive in the current meta, but I’m looking for ways to make this synergize even more
Anyways, here’s the list, C&C welcome:
Army Faction: Sylvaneth - Army Subfaction: Oakenbrow - Grand Strategy: The Roots of Victory - Triumphs: Indomitable - Seasons of War: The Burgeoning
LEADER
1 x Treelord Ancient (330)* - Artefacts: Greenwood Gladius - Spells: Verdant Blessing, Deadly Harvest
1 x Treelord Ancient (330)* - General - Command Traits: Spellsinger - Spells: Regrowth, Verdant Blessing
1 x Alarielle the Everqueen (820)** - Spells: Throne of Vines, Verdant Blessing
BATTLELINE
1 x Treelord (230)*
5 x Tree-Revenants (110)** - Scion - Glade Banner Bearer
5 x Tree-Revenants (110)** - Scion - Waypipes
ENDLESS SPELL
1 x Vengeful Skullroot (60)
TERRAIN
1 x Awakened Wyldwood (0)

2023.06.01 18:15 pinapplegrape Almost 3 year old - what the hell?
Son turns 3 in august. These last few weeks he’s been on another level. I practice gentle parenting and place firm boundaries. But he’s been doing this thing that makes me want to scream.
Let’s say he has the hose. I tell him if he sprays me, he loses it. When I go to take it if he does, he sprays me down. When he grabs a chemical, I obviously attempt to take it. I never snatch these items, but tell him I need to take them or rush towards him. He will turn toward me and spray me with the chemicals as quickly as he can. If I say time to drain the tub, he splashes me as much as he can.
I feel bullied. This makes me not want another kid. It makes me feel he’s evil and makes me angry. I have had to walk away out of anger to calm down. Is this freaking normal? Or am I raising a monster? I hate being a parent today.

2023.06.01 18:14 YupityYupYup How to deal with Red/Purple Decks?
I'm relatively new to the game, but I find it really enjoyable. As someone who has played card games since childhood, it's refreshing to find a simple, but skillful game, that hasn't yet become the absolute insanity that is yugioh and mtg at this point.
My brother introduced me to the game, he's a big fan of Digimon, and for his birthday I got him the cards to build a deck he wanted. I usually don't spend money on cards for myself, but I was like, why not, might as well since I'm enjoying the game.
Tldr, my brother made a Megidramon/Gallantmon deck, and I got myself a 4 Great Dragons decks.
While before we played with the starter blue and red decks, and our win/lose rations were about the same, probably 40-60 in my favor, now that number has changed drastically. At this point, I lose about 80% of the games we play.
And I should mention, I don't mind losing. It's part of the game, it's cool. But at this point, it's genuinely unfan to be playing against him.
So here's how most of our games go.
We'll start playing. I'll probably brick at the start, because 4GD is like that, then painstakingly build up to my level 5. Meanwhile, hell be building up his hoard, and milling all of my key cards. Assuming he doesn't delete my level 5, which is something that happens often, and I usually only have one cause everything else will get deleted by his effects at that point, and I manage to get into Goldramon, hell play Megidramon(the one that counts as Gallantmon as well), and with his baby, the dp for deletion goes up by 1000. So, bye bye Goldramon.
At that point, I've basically already lost.
I could summon my 4 great dragons, and circle with the trail and their effects in order to get a small hope, and use godflame to grab back the trial if it looks like I'm running out, but they can't do anything, since they die at the end of his turn, so they never get over summoning sickness. They're just giant meat sticks with effects that can do nothing else.
I could be trying to build back to a level 5, so I can give them rush somehow, but at that point his milling usually has most of my level 4s and 5s in the trash. And if not, getting his galantmont out will actually get them deleted.
Also, he can just tap all his tks, and gain back memory from my thing dying, which continues his turn since it's usually enough to put him at 0 at, or give his Digimon blitz to attack me on digivolve, so I'm sitting there, able to do nothing but slowly hatch and play my Digimon in my egg zone, where their effects which would help me aren't activated.
And that's assuming he doesn't deck me our with all the milling. Which has happened quite a few times.
Does anyone have any advice for how to deal with this? I really enjoy the game, and I love spending time with my brother through it, but its genuinely unfun for me to be playing against him at this point, since it feels like I'm playing chess and Russian roulette at the same time, while he just needs to get to his level 6. And with how expensive most of my things are, memory point wise, that's usually not hard.
Any and all advice are much appreciated. I just want to have fun playing with my brother again.

In a series that changes as often as Monster Hunter, it’s inevitable that certain players things are gonna age like milk. And, while there isn’t a single bad weapon in the series, some have certainly lost a bit of luster.
Whether it be the Greatsword’s ever raising skill floor to achieve damage that other weapons keep getting closer to, rise Hammer’s one-trick wonder, or something that just doesn’t feel as good as it used to… which weapon do you think is aging the worst?

As bards primarily cast magic using their charisma modifier, having a better charisma score from the off could give your character the edge in casting and defending against spells.
Does charisma also work the same on other classes when it comes to casting spells like charm person in charm monster Or is that a bards trait only?
Does charisma give an advantage?when casting the spell charm person or charm monster

Is Tommy Green Ranger form really his weakest? Yes logic dictates that first forms are usually the weaker than upgraded forms but it really had some amazing abilities such as the dragon shield's absorption and deflection. Wouldn't Tommy's Turbo Ranger form be his weakest? I know it's been retconned that his Turbo powers provided him super speed, but besides that nothing about it makes it seem stronger than the Green Ranger power.

2023.06.01 18:11 Foegotten Big Problem With Ruhenheim Arc
Ruhenheim is the destination for doomsday 'The Perfect Suicide.' Tenma will have to pull the trigger once he has the atrocities Johan has caused. So Johan distributes guns out to the people of Ruhenheim (we never see this). We just see some random person picking up a gun and a dead police officer. My big problem with Ruhenheim is that would it truly be enough to give someone a gun to start a massacare? You would have to do something more, right? Manipulate them to play on their insecurities. I don't think if you just have someone a gun and told them to kill a bunch of people that they would do it. There had to have been something more right?
I guess because multiple people were given guns that they might have acted out of fear of their lives. The grudges and dislikes people once felt could now finally be relieved with the pull of a trigger.
Let me know your thoughts about this. I mean, Ruheheim at the start was a lovely place full of great people. I guess the moral of the story is that anyone can be corrupted if given enough power and that people have a monster inside of them, and it can be released. It's how we control our dark urges and thoughts that make us strong.
Let me know your thoughts about this as I would love to know what people think.
Obviously, Johan's plan worked, but how could he be that confident in the darkness of people to know his suicide was nearly perfect?
There was that one experiment where given the choice to inflict pain on people, 90% chose yes. If anyone knows what that experiment was, then let me know.

2023.06.01 18:11 thrwawybleachacct What do you guys think of my zanpakuto concept
Hey first time posting i hope my zanpakuto concept isnt unreasonably powerful. Please let me know what you think:)
Zanpakuto: Fukutsu Yajū(indomitable beast)
Appearance: when sealed, Fukutsu Yajū looks like a Katana made of a dark metal with a hooked tip and a tsuba styled like two dragons eating eachother's tails.
Shikai Activation: "Rampage, Fukutsu Yajū"
Once activated, Fukutsu Yajū's blade becomes wreathed in white flame and glows with a dull red heat. Every successful hit with Fukustu Yajū causes its heat to grow until it is engulfed in white flame. Any offensive kido successfully blocked by Fukutsu Yajū is absorbed and charges its flame. While the flame is fully charged it can cut and melt through most other substances and spiritual defenses including bakudo. The more powerful the flame from Fukustu Yajū the more the users speed and physical strength grows, with its fully charged state giving the user strength and speed 10 times greater than before.
The user can use the flames wreathing Fukutsu Yajū as an arc of fire slicing through the air then call them back to wreath the blade again.
Bankai: Hakai no Ryū Fukutsu Yajū (dragon of destruction, indomitable beast)
Fukutsu Yajū's bakai can only be activated when its flames are fully charged. The flames that engulf Fukutsu Yajū's blade solidify into a bright white energy. The twin dragons on Fukutsu Yajū's tsuba morph into flame. One flies into the user's heart causing an aura of flame to spring up around them. The other grows and wraps around the blade of Fukutsu Yajū.
The flaming aura around the user gives them a moderate healing factor, healing all non-debilitating wounds and blocking out all pain as well as giving the user enhanced stamina.
The solidified energy of the blade allows it to move far quicker and can cut through even the strongest spiritual defenses including 90 level bakudo. The dragon wrapping around the blade bites and binds the opponent's weapon while the user attacks if it can, damaging it in the process. Mundane weapons and body parts are incinerated at a touch but even zanpakuto can sustain damage if bound too many times. From range the user can point Fukutsu Yajū's blade at the target and the dragon will open its mouth and breathe a beam of white hot flame. The beam can be as large as over a hundred meters in diameter or as condensed as a centimeter in diameter. The energy stays the same no matter how much area is covered so the more condensed the beam is, the more power it conveys to one spot.
This bankai is focused on all out offense. The user may rely on the bankai to keep them going even after they would usually be incapacitated but if they push themselves too far, their body will be unable to support their power and they will fall unconscious or even die as soon as their bankai ends.
